I wish I could take credit for this idea because I'm supposed to be the foodie here. But credit must go where credit is due and so for that reason, owe it all to my husband for this stroke of ingenuity.
We were at a coffee shop in need of a quick bite. I excused myself to the little girls' room, leaving all the ordering to him. Bacon apparently sounded good, as I'm pretty sure it does 99.9% of the time in the male species. He ordered the BLT on sourdough. Out of lettuce? Oh dear. A BT just doesn't have the same ring to it. Or the same crunch. He asked the gal at the counter if they had "anything green" that they could put on the sandwich instead?
"We have cucumbers."
Hmmm. Cucumbers? "Yes, we'll have that." I mean, why not?
I returned to our table and was informed of the creation that would soon be coming our way. I'm always up for an eating adventure, but this sounded, well, different.
Our sandwich arrived on perfectly toasted bread. We each took a bite. "Oh wow, that's good!" I said. It was incredible, actually. A slight grin began to take shape across on my husband's face, a look that means he knows he's done something very, very good. A look that says "Tell me You just don't know how lucky you are to have met me?"
This food discovery was earth-shaking. I think I like cucumbers better than lettuce on my BLT!
The BCT is totally the new BLT.
